Apparently the powers that be forced the former A+ list mostly television actor turned B+ list actor who has been around forever, to recant his true statement about his loathing of the permanent A+ lister.

That kind of story doesn’t work well with a goody goody image or an Oscar campaign.

Henry Winkler Says He Has No Beef With Tom Hanks

It’s not quite Taylor Swift and Katy Perry embracing while dressed as a burger and fries, but it appears any rumored feud between Hollywood good guys Henry Winkler and Tom Hanks is officially dead—if it even existed in the first place.

When stopped on the street by TMZ this week, Winkler said there was no animosity between himself and the Oscar winner. “I don’t have a feud with Tom Hanks,” the Barry star said bluntly. “What everybody says and what is true are two different things.”

Some context for those wondering where this alleged unrest even started: Back in the late ’80s, Winkler was slated to direct Hanks in the mostly forgotten cop-dog buddy comedy, Turner & Hooch. But the former Happy Days star was fired by producer Jeffrey Katzenberg just 13 days into production. “Let’s just say I got along better with Hooch than I did with Turner,” Winkler told People in 1993. Hanks, as one might guess, played Turner in the film.

In the years since Winkler has often repeated a variation on that joke—most recently telling Andy Cohen during an October 2019 Watch What Happens Live interview that he “got along great, great with that dog.” When Hanks received the Cecil B. deMille Award at the Golden Globes earlier this month, Winkler was shown in the audience wearing a blank expression.

When asked about his previous comments regarding Hanks and Turner & Hooch, Winkler told TMZ he had simply been having “fun,” adding that he saw Hanks at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday night. “It was beautiful,” Winkler said. – Source

Tom Hanks ends 20-year drought with new Oscar nomination

It’s a beautiful day indeed for Tom Hanks, who just scored his first Oscar nomination in almost 20 years for his portrayal of Mister Rogers in “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.”

Before the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences unveiled the 2020 nominees Monday, Hanks’ most recent Oscar recognition came in the form of a lead actor nomination for 2000’s “Cast Away.” “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” marks his first Oscar nomination for supporting actor and sixth overall.

Throughout his illustrious career, Hollywood’s favorite nice guy has won two Oscars — for his beloved title role in 1994’s “Forrest Gump” and his turn as a lawyer living with AIDS in 1993’s “Philadelphia.” He was also nominated in the lead actor category for 1998’s “Saving Private Ryan” and 1988’s “Big.”

He was thought to be snubbed for past performances, such as his portrayals of Walt Disney in 2013’s “Saving Mr. Banks” and Captain Richard Phillips in 2013’s “Captain Phillips.” – Source
