Oprah Winfrey revealed she had used a weight-loss drug, and it was not about willpower. In an exclusive interview with People, published on Wednesday, Winfrey attributed her much slimmer figure, which had generated significant buzz in the past week, in part to an anti-obesity medication.
On December 13, in an interview with People, Winfrey confirmed that she had taken a weight-loss drug but did not disclose the specific medication.
“I used it as I felt I needed it, as a tool to manage not yo-yoing,” she told People.
“The fact that there’s a medically approved prescription for managing weight and staying healthier, in my lifetime, feels like relief, like redemption, like a gift, and not something to hide behind and once again be ridiculed for. I’m absolutely done with the shaming from other people and particularly myself.”
Earlier this year, Winfrey said she once thought taking a weight-loss drug would be “the easy way out.”
