Apparently, the mainstream media must be reading my old blinds because they are all talking about the alliterate one replacing the now dead Senator.

Senator Meghan Markle?

Last Friday, California Senator Dianne Feinstein passed away (September 29, 2023), leading to the Seventeenth Amendment allowing state legislatures to appoint a replacement for the remainder of the term. Governor Gavin Newsom selected Laphonza Butler, president of the pro-choice political action committee EMILY’s List, as the new Senator.

Despite this, there was prior speculation about Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, potentially taking the role, and ongoing rumors suggest she might pursue a political path in the US through alternative means.

Her track record in public service doesn’t strongly support her potential success as a U.S. senator.

Given her preference for top roles and struggles within the British Royal Family, there are doubts about her ability to navigate the responsibilities of being one of 100 senators without imposing her terms.

While involved in charity and advocacy, her self-serving focus raises questions about her ability to prioritize broader public interests, and her experience in the royal family may not translate into the political acumen needed for congressional effectiveness.

The role of a senator, or a member of the lower house, entails making decisions that significantly affect the lives of millions of Americans. Key qualifications for this position should include an understanding of complex policy issues and a sincere dedication to serving constituents.

Markle’s primary experience as a celebrity and social media influencer may not adequately equip her for the demands of such a responsibility.

The issue of Meghan’s title is a prominent concern.

Despite her criticism of the institution that granted her the title, she has used it to further her ambitions, even intervening in US politics in 2021. Members of the British royal family are typically required to refrain from political involvement, and if Meghan pursues US political office, there are constitutional concerns. US Constitutional experts caution that maintaining her title while in office might conflict with Article I, Section 9 of the US Constitution, potentially leading to diplomatic tensions between the United States and the United Kingdom.
