The trial against actor Jonathan Majors, accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend, began with opening statements on Monday. Majors, known for roles in films like Marvel’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and “Creed III,” arrived at New York City Criminal Court wearing a long coat and beret at around 9:30 a.m.
Carrying a Bible, he entered the lower Manhattan courtroom at 10:05 a.m. and greeted friends and family, including his new partner Meagan Good, with a kiss on the cheek.
What’s happening:
The alleged incident occurred during a domestic dispute with his then-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, leading to Majors’ arrest on March 25.
During the incident, Jabbari saw a text message on Majors’ phone from someone named Cleopatra, stating, “Wish I was kissing you right now.” Allegedly, Jabbari took the phone from his hands to identify the sender. According to Perez, Majors responded by grabbing the right side of Jabbari’s body and forcibly removing her finger from the phone, resulting in bruising, swelling, and significant pain.
The actor, who pleaded not guilty, faced charges of misdemeanor assault, aggravated harassment, and harassment, with a strangulation charge dropped.
If convicted, Majors could face up to a year in jail.
