This foreign born A list mostly movie actor can say what he wants, but the studio would love nothing more to pull his movie because they know he is going to have a career that is nonexistent now.

Why Liam Neeson’s Film Premiere Was Abruptly Canceled

Liam Neeson has been playing damage control ever since an alarming revelation from his past went viral Monday. But despite declaring “I’m not racist” during a Tuesday morning appearance on Good Morning America, the actor will not be fielding any more questions about his past on the red carpet Tuesday night. The splashy New York premiere of his latest revenge film, Cold Pursuit, has been unceremoniously canceled.

While promoting the film in which he plays a familiar role—father-turned-vigilante hell bent on revenge—Neeson told The Independent about an incident decades ago where, after a close female friend told him that she had been raped by a black man, the actor “went up and down areas with a cosh, hoping I’d be approached by somebody—I’m ashamed to say that—and I did it for maybe a week, hoping some [here, Neeson gestured air quotes with his fingers] ‘black bastard’ would come out of a pub and have a go at me about something, you know? So that I could kill him.”

Lionsgate, the studio behind the film, offered Variety no comment on why the premiere was canceled though unnamed sources confirm it to be a direct response to the controversy surrounding the actor. Red carpet walk cancellations seem to be more frequent these days as intense social scrutiny and the 24-hour news cycle highlights the clash between real-world events and the Hollywood dream factory. For example, a spate of premieres were recently axed amidst the devastating California wildfires and a school shooting in Texas prompted Netflix to cancel a Season 2 premiere party for its ripped-from-the-headlines teen drama 13 Reasons Why.

General consensus online appears to be that Neeson didn’t help his cause by recounting his story again to Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts on Tuesday, with even Piers Morgan turning on the Irish actor via a scathing Daily Mail op-ed. “I did seek help,” the actor told Roberts of how he dealt with his past rage. “I went to a priest that heard my confession. . . . Two very, very good friends that I talked to. And, believe it or not, power walking. Two hours every day to get rid of this. I’m not racist.”

But not everyone felt Neeson should remain silent. Brooklyn Nine-Nine actor Terry Crews spent the day on Twitter trying to thread the needle by both encouraging an open dialogue on the nature of racially motivated violence and hatred while, at the same time, not defending Neeson’s past behavior.- Source
