Speaking of the strike and management.

Everyone seems shocked about the AI scanning your likeness and using it forever.

They have been doing that already for years.

The leaders of SAG-AFTRA, the union representing striking actors, expressed strong disapproval of the Hollywood studios’ recent proposition. Allegedly, the studios are seeking to employ AI-generated replicas of background actors indefinitely, offering only a single day’s pay in return. This move has intensified concerns surrounding the implementation of artificial intelligence tools by studios to substitute human performers and artists.

The trade group representing the studios stated that the proposal aimed to safeguard “digital likenesses” of performers and necessitate their consent for “the creation and utilization of digital replicas or alterations of performances.”

In response to the proposition, Director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, SAG-AFTRA’s chief negotiator, expressed his criticism. He revealed that the studios were offering background actors a mere day’s pay for undergoing a likeness scanning process.

Crabtree-Ireland further asserted that by accepting this offer, the studios would attain complete ownership over the scanned image, likeness, and perpetuity rights. Consequently, the studios would possess unrestricted authority to utilize these assets in any future project without the actors’ consent or providing any additional compensation.

Concerns regarding the utilization of AI were previously voiced by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) during its strike in May. The guild’s proposal aimed to establish regulations governing AI’s usage, which encompassed prohibiting AI from writing or revising “literary material,” prohibiting the generation of source material for writers through AI, and preventing the training of AI tools using content authored by the guild’s writers. However, the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) dismissed this proposition and instead suggested holding yearly meetings to “discuss technological advancements.”
