Foxella has been around since 2013, and it means more to me than I can easily put into words. Keeping it running takes time, energy, and real costs, but it also gives me purpose and connection. If Foxella has ever kept you company, sparked curiosity, or simply given you something to read during a quiet moment, and you are in a position to help, I would be deeply grateful for any contribution.

Oscar Odyssey

In the wild world of showbiz, the infamous casting couch gets its share of spotlight.

Picture this: a cunning actress, foreign-born, Oscar glitter in her pocket, navigating her path through the glitz and glam. Back in her early 20s, she had a brief fling with a big-shot A-lister from their cozy little country.

Fast forward, she snubs his advances, playing the long game.

Enter a movie opportunity.

She’s not the first pick, but destiny’s calling.

Here’s the twist: she’d rubbed another Oscar maestro the wrong way, being labeled “difficult.”

Now, with a career-defining role on the line, she dials up her former fling, the A-lister.

Terms are set—role for “romance(!)”.

They seal the deal, and voilà, she skyrockets to stardom, leaving “difficult” in the rearview. Hollywood, you quirky playground!

Zeta-Jones Reflects on Zorro: A Sword, Spurs, and a Twist of Fate

In a whimsical 2021 essay, Zeta-Jones unveiled her collection of good-luck charms, lovingly dubbed “bric-a-brac” by her husband. Amidst the treasures, her heart lies with the sword and spurs from the Zorro films—a symbolic nod to a transformative chapter in her life.

Before donning the Zorro mask, the Welsh luminary was a relatively unknown face in the USA, with a modest stint in UK acting. Fate intervened during the filming of a TV version of Titanic when legendary director Steven Spielberg spotted the 27-year-old actress and was captivated.

Swiftly, Spielberg whisked her away to Mexico to audition for The Mask of Zorro.

As Zeta-Jones nostalgically recounts, “The next thing you know, I got my big break working not only with the wonderful Antonio Banderas but also with one of my idols, Anthony Hopkins, who is from my home country [Wales].”

The irony continued as, post-wrap, her now-husband Michael Douglas attended a private screening of Zorro in Hollywood. Witnessing her on screen, it marked the beginning of their love story, adding a romantic twist to a career-changing film. Zorro didn’t just alter her career; it rewrote the script of her entire life.
