Colin Firth and wife reach private settlement with alleged stalker

Four months after actor Colin Firth and wife Livia Giuggioli publicly accused her ex-lover of stalking her, they have settled the matter out of court.

“In the best interests of their families, the parties have agreed (on) a private settlement,” said lawyers representing Firth and Giuggioli and Italian journalist Marco Brancaccia in a joint statement to USA TODAY. “Therefore the parties have asked the court for a postponement of the preliminary hearing in order to formalize the agreement. From this point on, this agreement precludes any further public statement by any of the parties about this matter.”

In March, Firth and Giuggioli revealed that she had engaged in an affair with Brancaccia during a period when the couple had separated.

“A few years ago Colin and Livia privately made the decision to separate. During that time, Livia briefly became involved with former friend Mr. Brancaccia. The Firths have since reunited,” his representative, Luke Windsor, told USA TODAY in a statement at the time. “Subsequently, Mr. Brancaccia carried out a frightening campaign of harassment over several months, much of which is documented.”

Brancaccia denied the stalking allegations in a March interview with the British newspaper The Times, claiming Giuggioli made them up to cover up the affair. He said their relationship lasted from 2015 to June 2016, after which he sent her two messages on WhatsApp and an email. – Source
