Babyface asked not to perform. Fans respond to Anita Baker’s diva behavior.

It seems the latest stop on what should’ve been a brilliant tour matchup with Anita Baker definitely brought no joy to Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds’ fans. That led to much talk about the Detroit diva being a, umm, diva.

The Indianapolis-reared singer-songwriter-producer told fans on Wednesday night he was asked not to take the stage in Newark, New Jersey so that headliner Baker could perform her full set after the show got off to a super late start.

The tour is a celebration of the 40th anniversary of Baker’s first solo album, “The Songstress,” which was released in 1983.

Edmonds posted an apology to his social media accounts.

“I am truly sorry to my fans who have been waiting for us to hit the stage this evening at @PruCenter. I was asked not to perform in order to give Ms. Baker her space and time to perform her show in its entirety. My band and I are extremely saddened we didn’t get to perform for y’all tonight,” he posted with a heartbreak emoji on Twitter.

Wednesday’s show was scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and Baker didn’t start her performance until about two hours later, according to attendee social media postings. – Source
