After the triumph of the Barbie movie, Mattel is eager to broaden its cinematic universe, with plans to adapt films based on various toy franchises. One such project in the pipeline is a Polly Pocket film. Robbie Brenner, the producer from Mattel Films, disclosing that the film already has a script submitted to the studio, though details about the plot remain a secret.

To bring the toy to life on the big screen, the film will be directed by Lena Dunham, known for her work on HBO’s Girls. Taking on the lead role of Polly Pocket herself will be Lily Collins, known for her portrayal of Emily in Paris in the popular Netflix original series.

Controversy: in 2014, Lena Dunham, the creator of Girls, has issued an apology after facing criticism for passages in her memoir that some see as describing the sexual abuse of her younger sister. The controversial passages from her book include an incident from when Dunham was seven, where she mentions examining her sister’s genitals when the latter was one year old. Dunham clarified that she does not condone abuse and expressed remorse if her book’s content has caused pain to readers. She also acknowledged that using the term “sexual predator” in a comic context was insensitive. Dunham emphasized her close relationship with her sister, Grace, and stated that anything written about her in the book was with her approval.
