U.P. psychologist gets prison for trading opioids for sex with patients – 2019

A psychologist in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula who traded opioids for sexual favors from patients is facing up to 15 years in prison.

Michael Varney, 62, pleaded guilty to felony charges in April and was sentenced last week in Marquette Circuit Court, according to a news release issued Wednesday by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel.

Varney received 54 months to 15 years in prison on three felony counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct and 282 days each on seven other felony charges. He also is required to pay $427,558 in restitution for Medicaid and health care fraud.

He pleaded guilty in April. – Source
