Critics on social media have accusing Oprah Winfrey for her attempt to involve a CBS film crew at a Maui evacuation center. Accusations of being opportunistic and orchestrating a staged “photo op” have surfaced, as she reportedly aimed to engage with survivors of the recent deadly wildfires in Lahaina.

Oprah, a media magnate who possesses around 1,000 acres on Maui and is known to spend part of her time on the island, seemed to seek a similar on-camera opportunity as last week. In a previous instance, she was recorded by a BBC crew at the War Memorial Complex in Wailuku, a shelter for evacuees, where she distributed essential items such as towels, water, and personal hygiene products, as reported by The New York Times.
