I typically don’t like to write about the same item two days in a row, but this one is special.

For those who believe the perks investigation into the celebrity CEO is some kind of conspiracy, or special treatment, it’s not.

About 2 decades ago, there was a celebrity CEO  of his time, though obviously not as high profile as our celebrity CEO today.

There was massive fraud with perks at his company, he was found guilty, and went to jail for a few years.

The Notorious Dennis Kozlowski and His Lavish Spending Spree

Dennis Kozlowski is a former CEO of Tyco International, a multinational security systems company. He gained notoriety in the early 2000s for his involvement in corporate fraud and embezzlement. Kozlowski was arrested in 2002 and later convicted of looting nearly $100 million from Tyco. He served a six-and-a-half-year prison sentence before being released on parole. The case highlighted corporate governance issues and executive misconduct.

In 2005, Kozlowski faced arrest and a six-and-a-half-year prison sentence for embezzling almost $100 million from his company. Unveiled records showed he discreetly loaned hefty sums of corporate money to executives, later forgiving the loans to secure their loyalty.

In addition, he distributed millions in unauthorized bonuses and used company funds to acquire a $16.8 million apartment in New York City.

Kozlowski didn’t shy away from tapping into Tyco’s coffers to cover his personal expenses, including an $80,000 American Express bill and indulgent purchases like a $17,100 traveling toilet box, a $15,000 dog umbrella stand, and a $6,000 shower curtain.
