They are considering charges after a crash involving Anthony Joshua

The now global A List boxer’s family and team were relieved when he landed back in the UK, after the accident in the African country that killed his two friends.
They’re worried it wasn’t an accident.

The driver involved in the fatal car crash that injured Anthony Joshua could soon face criminal charges, according to investigators.

Boxing star Anthony Joshua was involved in a tragic car crash on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Nigeria late in December. The SUV he was riding in hit a stationary truck. Joshua walked away with minor injuries, but two of his close team members — strength coach Sina Ghami and trainer Latif Ayodele — were killed in the collision.

Nigerian authorities have now charged the driver, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, with multiple offenses including dangerous and reckless driving causing death, negligent driving, driving without due care, and operating the vehicle without a valid driver’s licence. He was arraigned in court, granted bail, and is due back in court later this month.

Preliminary investigations indicated factors like high speed and a burst tyre may have contributed to the crash. Joshua has been discharged from the hospital and has travelled back to the UK while funeral services for his late friends proceed.

Joshua has not been accused of any wrongdoing. The case remains under review, and formal charges have not yet been finalized.
