The 51-year-old star of ‘The Affair’ said in a 2016 interview that wives would be smart to ‘turn a blind eye’ to husbands who have flings in their 40s and 50s.

British film and TV fans had to wonder if Dominic West’s wife, Catherine FitzGerald, was really doing OK after photos appeared showing her husband on a romantic-looking getaway in Rome with actress Lily James.

FitzGerald joined her husband last month for a photo op outside their London home to declare in a statement: “Our marriage is strong and we’re very much still together.”

The weekend before, West, 51, was photographed embracing and kissing James, 31. The Daily Mail reported that the co-stars spent two nights in a hotel suite with a panoramic view of the city, just two minutes’ walk from the Spanish steps.

Sources are now telling The Sun that FitzGerald, 49, isn’t doing OK and may have concluded that her 10-year marriage to West is “over.” That’s because West reportedly admitted to his wife, with whom he shares four children, that he has “feelings” for James.

A source told The Sun: “Catherine has told those closest to her that Dominic has admitted having feelings for Lily.” At first, it seemed as though Fitzgerald could write off his Roman holiday with James as a one-time fling, sources said.

However, as Fitzgerald stood outside her London home with West on Oct. 13, and the couple awkwardly kissed in front of reporters, she kept her left hand in her pocket as if to hide the absence of a wedding band, E! News reported. West wasn’t wearing his wedding ring at all.

“Catherine has since said it’s become obvious it was more than that,” a family friend told The Sun. “Catherine feels crushed by it, naturally. It’s a huge thing to be coming to terms with.”

“She has since told the people closest to her their marriage is as good as over now, and she doesn’t think there is a way past this,” the friend said.

The Daily Mail also reported that it had contacted representatives for West and James for comment, but it could be that West expected the whole issue to blow over. He made his views on infidelity clear in a 2016 interview with the Evening Standard, according to the Daily Mail.

“It’s daft to kick someone out over a fling. Isn’t it? Everyone should turn a blind eye to men’s behavior between the ages of 40 and 50,” he told the reporter. “Let it all blow over.” – Source
