Rick Singer says FBI got mad when he wouldn’t implicate others in college admissions scandal: court docs

Rick Singer, the organizer of a notorious college admissions bribery operation who says he helped wealthy families get their kids into schools through shady means, got yelled at by the FBI when he wouldn’t admit that parents had knowledge of his scheme, according to court documents filed on Wednesday in Massachusetts District Court.

The documents, filed on behalf of media mogul and defendant Elisabeth Kimmel, claim as part of a larger argument against the government’s proposed trial schedule and groupings that the state just that day produced 309 pages of iPhone notes from Singer, with more supposedly to come. On the first page of those notes, the documents claim, Singer appears to provide evidence that parents believed the money they were giving to him to grease the admissions process were actually donations to athletic programs, not bribes. It adds that the FBI was upset about this fact, and told Singer to lie about it.

“Loud and abrasive call with agents. They continue to ask me to tell a fib and not restate what I told my clients as to where there [sic] money was going –to the program not the coach and that it was a donation and they want it to be a payment,” Singer wrote, according to the documents.

The government claims that rich parents contracted the services of Singer for help bribing their kids’ way into elite schools. But if parents — including Kimmel and “Full House” actress Lori Loughlin and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli — believed that they were merely donating to a school, with no guarantee of admission, they could potentially escape legal culpability. – Source

Lori Loughlin, Mossimo Giannulli’s lawyer claims FBI directed college admissions scandal mastermind to lie

Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli’s attorney filed a motion to have their trial in the college admissions scandal postponed after evidence he deems “exonerating” was brought to light.

In court documents obtained by Fox News, the famous couple’s attorney, Sean M. Berkowitz, alleges that newly released personal notes from scam mastermind William “Rick” Singer point to FBI investigators directing him to lie and say that he made everyone involved with the scam aware their payments were bribery rather than legitimate donations to schools.

In January, the couple’s attorney accused prosecutors of withholding evidence that could help prove that they weren’t aware the money they were paying to Singer to get their daughters, Isabella and Oliva Jade Giannulli, admitted to USC went to personal bribes. The couple’s attorney now says that the trial should be postponed in light of this new evidence that puts blame on FBI investigators.

“Singer’s notes indicate that FBI agents yelled at him and instructed him to lie by saying that he told his clients who participated in the alleged ‘side door’ scheme that their payments were bribes, rather than legitimate donations that went to the schools,” the court documents read. “They further note the Government’s desire to ‘nail’ one of the defendants ‘at all costs.’” – Source
