Dear monthly magazine that is run by the sunglassed one,

Thanks for finally publishing what I have been talking about for years.

Modeling is essentially a front for yachting and the agents acting as pimps.

Models Speak Candidly About Navigating Power Dynamics in the Age of #MeToo

In this episode of The Models, a new five-part Vogue docuseries that sheds light on the realities of life in front of the camera, several of fashion’s most successful stars open up about the complicated power dynamics at play at every level of the modeling industry in the age of #MeToo. Many have struggled to navigate the push-pull relationships with clients, agents, and photographers. When Ali Michael started out a little more than a decade ago, she felt constantly at her agency’s disposal: “I was a kid, so I felt very submissive to all of these people who I equated as authority figures,” she says. “If I was told to do something, I did it. I wanted to do a good job with this crazy opportunity that I was presented with.”

Others tell of being treated with complete disregard on set. “When a photographer comes up to you and moves you around like you’re a mannequin . . . I find that incredibly insulting,” says Myla Dalbesio. “Especially if you’re nude. Just don’t touch me.” Worse still are the shocking instances of sexual harassment and the feelings of shame that arise as a result. “A photographer that I really wanted to work with was doing a series of nudes for a book,” says Carolyn Murphy. “At one point he came over to fix my hair or something, and he tried to kiss me. I pushed him off and said, ‘What are you doing? This is not okay with me.’ . . . You can’t help but think, Did I do something to perpetuate this?” – Source
