In April 2020, pop star Demi Lovato spoke to Harper’s Bazaar about their experience using the Raya dating app. The singer explained that they joined the elite dating service a few years after their breakup with actor Wilmer Valderrama, but deleted the app after finding a new relationship. Once it ended, they tried to get their account back and were rejected by the platform. It all worked out for the best, as they explained to the magazine, “I just deleted it out of respect to the person I was with, then we broke up, and I went to get back on. And I was like, ‘You know what? It’s fine. I don’t need to be on this because I think I’m supposed to be alone right now.’”

Singer and notorious heartbreaker John Mayer found his way to the Raya platform in 2016. It’s widely reported that his portfolio included a slideshow of photos set to a Neil Young song, but those details have yet to be confirmed by a legit source that attempted to match with him on the dating app. Still, his confirmed presence caught the attention of other celebs, most notably fellow musician Lizzo, who has openly stated she also joined the platform in the hopes of matching with the musician.

The actress and talk show host dished the dirt in 2020 when she appeared on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen. Barrymore explained that her friends gave her a false sense of hope after building up the dating app. She had a disastrous experience, which included being stood up by one of her matches, to which she stated, “I’ve always wanted to go on a blind date, but my life got in the way of that, so I thought, like, online dating might satiate that desire. And no, it was a real wake-up call. But it was fun, and yes, there were lots of exciting people.”

Ben Affleck made headlines after he was spotted on the coveted dating app. Before rekindling his romance and eventual engagement to Jennifer Lopez, a TikToker user named Nivine Jay posted a viral video to recall the time she didn’t believe she had matched with the real Ben Affleck on Raya. Her TikTok included a private video exchange where Affleck can be seen on camera asking Jay why she unmatched him — claiming he was the real deal. The cringe-worthy dialogue caused quite a stir for the actor, but he seems to have settled in nicely without her.
