‘Gossip Girl’ star Taylor Momsen reveals dark period of substance abuse

Taylor Momsen struggled with depression and substance abuse following the deaths of Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell and her producer.

The “Gossip Girl” star-turned-singer had been on tour with Cornell in 2017 when he died by suicide at the age of 52.

“Opening for Soundgarden was the highest of highs for me,” Momsen told People of Cornell’s band. “So to have it end so tragically was crushing. We were there that night in Detroit [when Chris died] and spoke that evening. To wake up to the news that he had passed was such a shock. I was not equipped to handle that.”

The Pretty Reckless lead singer canceled the rest of her shows and went home to grieve. But less than a year later, she received the news that her longtime producer and close friend, Keto Khandwala, had died at age 47 following a motorcycle accident.

“When I got that phone call that he died, that was the nail in the coffin for me,” she revealed. “I went into this hole of just utter depression and substance abuse. I was in a very unhealthy space.”

What helped Momsen regain her footing was working on her band’s new album, “Death by Rock and Roll.” – Source
