Dr. Oz mulls Senate race in Pennsylvania

Celebrity doctor Dr. Oz said Tuesday he has “received encouragement” to run on the Republican ticket for the hotly contested U.S. Senate race in Pennsylvania.

The popular TV host, whose real name is Mehmet Oz and who was born in Turkey, is reportedly mulling jumping into the GOP 2022 primary contest to replace Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.), who is retiring.

“Dr. Oz has received encouragement to run for the U.S. Senate, but is currently focused on our show and has no announcement at this time,” a spokesman for Oz told the right-wing Free Beacon newspaper.

Oz, 61, appears on his own medical advice show and is a regular guest on Fox News. Oprah Winfrey once dubbed him “America’s doctor.”

If he does get into Pennsylvania politics, he would become the latest headline-grabbing celebrity to try his hand at running for office.

The GOP field in Pennsylvania includes Sean Parnell, a failed House candidate who is a strong supporter of former President Trump, and businessman Jeff Bartos. – Source
