Harry And Meghan’s Public History Of Private Jets
2021 – When is a private jet not truly private? For Harry and Meghan, stepping out of one feels like Oprah Winfrey making a scene in Times Square. A Google search for “Meghan Markle private jet” returns 6.3 million results, while “Prince Harry private jet” yields 9.9 million. Combined, the couple garners 6.5 million mentions, far outpacing Oprah’s 3.1 million and Kim Kardashian’s 2.4 million.
Criticism of their private jet use is due to their advocacy for reducing carbon emissions. They don’t own a jet but access them through friends, business associations, and charters.
Most recently, in May, Tyler Perry reportedly loaned his $53 million Embraer Lineage 1000E jet to fly the couple from Vancouver to Los Angeles. This model, also used commercially by airlines like JetBlue and KLM, can be customized for private use with features like bedrooms, showers, meeting rooms, and living areas, seating up to 19 passengers.

Elton emphasized his friendship with Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, and his sense of duty to protect Harry’s family from press intrusion. He noted that he and his husband, David Furnish, provided the jet to ensure the family’s safety and made the flight carbon neutral.
Elton purchased his villa, Castel Mont-Alban, in 1996 and has remained close to Diana’s sons, William and Harry. He attended both William and Kate Middleton’s and Harry and Meghan’s weddings.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, along with their son Archie, faced criticism for their frequent use of private jets. They were seen boarding a jet in Nice after a trip to Ibiza for Meghan’s birthday. Critics pointed out the environmental impact, noting private jets emit significantly more carbon dioxide than commercial flights. Despite the backlash, Elton praised Harry and Meghan’s charitable commitments and urged the press to stop their character attacks.
