They hooked up back in the day before either got married.

She is good in that regard, but he is still married.

The best friend knows about the back in the day hookup.

What the best friend doesn’t know about is the present day hookup.

If she did she wouldn’t ever speak to her best friend again.

Ever. That would make for some very awkward future projects.
