Jeffrey Epstein claimed he managed Bill Gates’ money, philanthropist says

A philanthropist claimed that Jeffrey Epstein said he played a role in managing money for Bill Gates — contradicting the Microsoft co-founder’s repeated efforts to downplay his ties to the convicted pedophile, according to a report.

Barnaby Marsh, a philanthropist who advises the wealthy on their charitable giving, said that Epstein liked to gather billionaire power players in his Manhattan apartment — including Gates — to try to solve issues wealthy donors faced, The Wall Street Journal reported.

During these meetings, Epstein’s guests also discussed how to make large donations, and Epstein was known to openly talk about his jail time, Marsh told the Journal.

Marsh said he attended these gatherings himself because of the other billionaires and academics that were there — and they all had the same interest in philanthropy.

“So many of these billionaires knew him,” Marsh told the Journal. “Nobody ever said, ‘Watch out for him.’”

… The Journal’s story is based on calendars the paper’s reporters obtained, and documents one day—September 8, 2014—on which Epstein had arranged to meet with several powerful figures in New York. Among them was Gates, with whom he was scheduled to spend six hours spread across meetings with four different people at four different locations, including Epstein’s townhouse. It also documents four additional days on which Epstein and Gates were, according to Epstein’s calendar, scheduled to meet, at least three of which appear to have been previously unknown. This is extremely significant because it substantially increases the amount of specific, known meetings between the two, and shows that they were meeting on specific dates late into 2014—after, in fact, the relationship had caused conflict between Gates and his then wife, Melinda French Gates, which would ultimately end in their divorce.

“As Bill has said many times before,” a spokesperson told the Journal, “it was a mistake to have ever met with him and he deeply regrets it.” This is the line Gates has gone with for years.
