Actress Sophie Nyweide, known for her roles in films like Noah and Mammoth, was found dead at the age of 24 on April 14, 2025, in Bennington, Vermont.
According to her death certificate, she was pregnant at the time of her passing. Authorities are investigating her death as a possible unintentional overdose, though foul play has not been ruled out. A man present at the scene called 911 and is cooperating with the investigation but is not considered a suspect.
Nyweide’s mother, Shelly Gibson, revealed that her daughter had been struggling with drug use and was with individuals she did not know at the time of her death. The family noted in her obituary that, despite efforts from loved ones and professionals, Nyweide resisted treatment for her mental health challenges.
Nyweide began her acting career at a young age, with appearances in films such as Bella (2006), Margot at the Wedding (2007), and An Invisible Sign (2010). Her final credited role was in the 2014 film Noah.
In lieu of flowers, her family has requested donations be made to RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) in her memory.
