Apparently breaking up over a swimming pool is the new breaking up over drugs.

Natasha Lyonne Says She and Fred Armisen Broke Up Because She “Wanted a Swimming Pool”

Natasha Lyonne confirmed that she and her boyfriend of eight years Fred Armisen broke up over her desire to install a water feature in their home.

The actress broke the news to The Hollywood Reporter during an interview about the upcoming second season of her show Russian Doll. When asked if she’s currently based in Los Angeles, Lyonne replied, “I’m not. I had been there living with Fred and during COVID.” She added, “I honestly think we broke up because I wanted a swimming pool.” But while their romantic relationship may have come to an end, the Orange Is the New Black star says things between them are still completely amicable. “We love each other just about as much as two people can love each other and we’re still talking all the time,” she explained. “But Freddy doesn’t like a swimming pool. It might seem like a mundane reason for a breakup, but during that pandemic, you’ve got to get your laps — I’m like Burt Lancaster in The Swimmer.” Because of that strong desire to take a dip, she ultimately ended up purchasing a home of her own in Los Angeles, with a pool of course. Lyonne concluded, “So that’s the real scandal. I guess I finally am an actual bicoastal.”

Rumors the two had broken up first began in September 2021 when the Daily Mail obtained photos of Lyonne holding hands with a mystery man after the couple was last photographed together at the 2020 Golden Globes. Lyonne and Armisen were first linked in 2014 when they were spotted kissing at Netflix’s post-Emmys party at the Chateau Marmont. She explained to Glamour in 2019 that they first met through their mutual friend Maya Rudolph. “I was going through a rocky road, as we know,” she said of her “Grey Gardens phase.” The actress added that when Rudolph and Armisen first came over to visit her she was in a long silk robe, sunglasses on, and chain-smoking. “I pulled out a copy of [Legs McNeil’s oral history of punk] Please Kill Me, autographed it, and was like, ‘Welcome, kid. Fred—what a name. Happy birthday. Enjoy the book.’ He still has it.” – Source
