There is no consistent income stream from sales of the line because of all the negative publicity. It was not exactly making huge bucks before and had to be subsidized.

Maybe they think this award season is their last shot.

Marchesa’s return to the red carpet has been slow going since Chapman’s estranged husband, Harvey Weinstein, faced a stream of accusations beginning in 2017 from women who said he had sexually harassed them. (He has denied the allegations.) Chapman took a step back from her brand at the time, Marchesa canceled its show during February’s New York Fashion Week, and Chapman maintained a low profile in Vogue in May—which coincided with Scarlett Johansson wearing a burgundy Marchesa gown to the Met Gala.
