Oprah Stands Up for Meghan Markle

It is . . . not too shabby to have George Clooney going to bat for you not just once in the media, but twice. And, now, Meghan Markle has yet another extremely high-profile public defender: Oprah Winfrey.

In a Wednesday interview with her longtime best friend, Gayle King, on CBS This Morning, Winfrey took on the way the Duchess of Sussex has been scrutinized and criticized in the press.

“I think she’s being portrayed unfairly, and I feel that if people really knew her, they would know that she is not only everything that we perceive her as being—graceful and dynamic and holding that position—but she just has a wonderful, warm, giving, loving heart,” she told King and two other anchors. “I see all the crazy press around her. I think it’s really unfair.”

King—who attended Meghan’s baby shower in New York—added that Meghan doesn’t seem to “buy into” any of the press, to which Winfrey continued, “She actually does not read anything, which I find . . . I think that’s remarkable—that in spite of all that’s going on, she does not read anything.”

Winfrey has a bit of a history with Meghan and her family at this point. Shortly before the royal wedding, she was photographed spending the afternoon with Doria Ragland, Meghan’s mother, in California, sparking rumors (or wishful thinking) that perhaps Ragland would be doing her first sit-down interview with Winfrey. (It hasn’t happened . . . yet.) Winfrey also attended the royal wedding last May, though she did not appear to be present for Meghan’s baby shower. – Source
