Matt Lauer sent Hoda Kotb a congratulatory text

Matt Lauer sent well wishes to his “Today” successor, Hoda Kotb.

The disgraced anchorman congratulated Kotb via text after NBC announced Tuesday that she would be taking his old position next to Savannah Guthrie, Kotb told E! News.

“He was sweet this morning. Certain texts popped up, and there was one from Matt: ‘Congratulations!,’” she told E! between takes of Tuesday’s show. “He said some nice words.”

Kotb, 53, swooped in to join Guthrie the morning that Lauer’s November firing was announced amid sexual harassment accusations, and she has been filling in since then. In her new role, Kotb will anchor with Guthrie during the show’s first two hours and continue to host alongside Kathie Lee Gifford during the fourth hour.

“It’s 2018 and we are kicking off the year right because Hoda is officially the co-anchor of ‘Today,’” Guthrie announced at the top of Tuesday’s show. “This has to be the most popular decision NBC News have ever made and I’m so thrilled.” – Source
