Sarah Ferguson Opens Up About Prince Andrew’s Friendship with Jeffrey Epstein

Prince Andrew’s Newsnight interview, in which he discussed his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and denied accusations that he had sex with one of Epstein’s alleged victims, was widely regarded as a disaster. In fact, the criticism following the Duke of York’s conversation with journalist Emily Maitlis eventually led to his decision to step back from his royal duties for the “foreseeable future.”

“It has become clear to me over the last few days that the circumstances relating to my former association with Jeffrey Epstein has become a major disruption to my family’s work and the valuable work going on in the many organisations and charities that I am proud to support,” the Duke of York said in a personal statement in November.

“Therefore, I have asked Her Majesty if I may step back from public duties for the foreseeable future, and she has given her permission.”

Now Prince Andrew’s ex-wife Sarah Ferguson has addressed the royal scandal in an interview of her own to Vogue Arabia, though it’s unclear if the conversation took place before or after the Newsnight interview aired.

“It’s incredibly difficult,” Ferguson said of the media scrutiny surrounding both her relationship with the Queen’s second son, and his association with Epstein, in Vogue Arabia.

And when asked about her efforts in the mental health space, the duchess opened up about Prince Andrew, alluding to the fallout over his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

“When I talk about Prince Andrew, I talk about family because the last six months have been hard on the girls and me,” she said.

“To see such a wonderful man go through such enormous pain. He is the best man I know. It’s just incredible what he has done for Britain, and it’s all nonsense [her voice raises as she alludes to the Epstein scandal], so I talk about familyhood, and I’m very strong about it.”

Previously, Ferguson showed her support for her former husband on Instagram, calling him a “true and real gentleman” and a “giant of a principled man.” – Source
