ASIA Argento had a long history with the boy who accused her of sexually assaulting him at the age of 17 — starting a decade earlier when he played her son in a disturbing film dealing with childhood sexual abuse.

Argento, the partner of late TV chef Anthony Bourdain and a leading figure in the #MeToo movement after going public with her own allegations against disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein, settled a sexual assault claim with actor Jimmy Bennett in 2017, new reports claim.

The New York Timesreports the actor paid former child star Jimmy Bennett $US380,000 ($A517,000) just months after she came forward and accused Weinstein of sexually assaulting her.

The alleged assault occurred at a Californian hotel room on May 9, 2013, when Argento was 37 and Bennett was 17 and two months — the legal age of sexual consent in California is 18.
